School days in Jersey Children start school at the beginning of the term in which they turn five. Subsequent lifelong learning opportunities across the island are wide ranging and well supported. |
They must remain in school until June 30 of the year they turn 16. The States of Jersey operates 23 non-fee paying primary schools and five non-fee paying secondary schools for pupils aged 11-16. Additionally, there are two fee paying primary schools and two fee paying secondary schools in the States sector. Non-fee paying primary schools accept children from their catchment area. To register, phone or write to the primary school giving the child’s name, date of birth and address. Parents should register their children by 1 February of the school year before their child is due to start school full time. Parents who want their children to attend a primary school outside their catchment area must first register with their catchment school. They must indicate on the registration form that they would prefer that their child be placed in another primary school. There are seven private primary schools and three private secondary schools. Four schools in the Island cater to children with special needs.
